Is a Diabetes Cure in the Future?

Scientists are much closer to finding a diabetes cure then ever. While there is no absolute diabetes cure there are very effective forms of diabetes. In order to cure a disease you need to understand the cause of the disease and it just may be that scientist have uncovered the cause for diabetes and are that much closer to developing a diabetes cure. It has been discovered that diabetes may be caused by the nervous system. Supposedly the information passed through neurons to the pancreas is not firing properly.

Currently only clinical trials have been done with mice but in 24 hours a great improvement was found when mice with diabetes were given a medication that reduces the effect of neurons to the pancreas. This is huge news for those with diabetes, as it would suggest a cure is close by. Much research still has to be to produce a diabetes cure for humans. Further clinical studies must be done both on other animals and humans and the FDA must approve the medication.

If this truly is the cause for diabetes the diabetes cure may actually be quite similar for those with type I or type I diabetes. It suggests that it is not the immune system going wacky that is causing the problems but the nervous system and would tie diabetes closer to other diseases that have no cure such as Crohn’s disease and asthma. If the diabetes cure is discovered then this may lead to finding new paths of research for other inflammatory sicknesses.

Diabetes is becoming more prevalent in society as individuals are not as healthy as they once were. Diabetes is high on the causes for death even though it is possible to live a long and healthy life with diabetes. However a diabetes cure would make those that have Type II diabetes life much easier. This would eliminate the need for many medications. A diabetes cure would also lead a step further to understanding human genetics as it is unknown what genes cause the changes in the body that result in diabetes. Unfortunately there is no present diabetes cure though the horizon is looking promising.
